Hey there,

I’m Maggie A. Sullivan, LMFT-T

I'm a therapist, relationship nerd, and lifelong student of what makes people—and our relationships—tick.

I'm a marriage and family therapist offering individual, couples, and family therapy in Topeka, KS.

I believe therapy works best when it feels like a real relationship: warm, honest, collaborative, and occasionally willing to go somewhere a little uncomfortable.

Why I do this work

After undergrad, I spent a year serving with AmeriCorps in South Central Los Angeles. I loved helping people, but I didn't yet know exactly what that would look like for me long-term.

I went on to spend the next decade working across a wide variety of industries, collecting experiences and learning a lot along the way. Eventually, though, I knew I wasn't done yet. I spent some time figuring out what path would allow me to turn that desire to help people into something more tangible.

Therapy became that path.

What I love most about this work is the connection that happens in the moments people usually hide from everyone else. It's raw. It's real. And I feel incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to sit with people through those moments.

Watching someone create meaningful change in their life—and seeing their own strengths come through in the process—is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.

Therapy with me is pretty human.

I don't believe you need to show up to therapy as the perfectly put-together version of yourself. You get to be a real person here, and so do I.

You might see me forgetting to charge my tablet, making sure all three of my beverages are within reach before we begin, or occasionally swearing. I lean into humor. I'm curious. I'm direct when I think a little challenge might be useful. And, yes, I've been known to take clients for walks.

No two sessions should feel exactly the same. Each time you walk through the door, we're both arriving as slightly different versions of ourselves than we were the time before. I'll do my best to meet you where you are, stay curious with you, and adapt our work to what feels most useful and authentic to you.

Therapy should feel like a place where you can be honest—not a place where you have to perform being okay.

You don’t have to be in crisis to come to therapy.

Therapy can be a place to understand yourself better, work through feeling stuck or lonely, navigate a transition, or simply check in with yourself and make sure you're still moving in a direction that feels like your own.

Sometimes having an unbiased person you trust ask you a direct question can help you see something you couldn't quite see on your own.

You don't have to wait until everything falls apart to decide that something deserves your attention.

When our work together comes to an end…

When my clients graduate from therapy, I hope they leave with a deeper sense of belonging and confidence in themselves to keep going.

Life will always throw more at us than we know how to handle. I don't think the goal is to conquer ourselves or become someone who never struggles again.

I hope our time together helps you recognize the strength you already carry—and trust yourself a little more when life asks you to use it.

And when you're ready to move on, my door doesn't have to close forever. Sometimes life changes again. If you ever decide you want to return, you'll be welcome.
