Frequently Asked Questions
-
That's completely okay. You don't need to know how therapy is supposed to work—or what you're supposed to say. I'll help us find a rhythm that feels comfortable, useful, and genuinely yours.
-
Not at all. You don't need a diagnosis, a perfectly articulated problem, or a five-year plan before reaching out. We can start with what's happening right now and figure out where to go from there.
-
I listen. A lot. But I won't just sit quietly and nod while you talk. I'll ask questions, notice patterns, get curious about what's happening underneath the surface, and challenge you when I think it might be helpful.
-
There's no universal timeline. Some people come in with something specific they want to work through; others want longer-term support while they navigate a particular season of life. We'll check in along the way about whether therapy is still serving you and what you want from our work together.

Yes. I work with individuals, couples, and families, depending on what you're navigating. As a systemic therapist, I'm interested not only in what's happening within a person, but also in the relationships and patterns around them.
-
It's not a mini therapy session or an audition.
It's simply a chance for us to talk about what's bringing you in, what you're looking for, and whether we might be a good fit. You don't need to have the right words or know exactly what you want to work on.
-
It depends. Sessions are typically 50–90 minutes, depending on what we're working on and what makes sense for you.
Sometimes we'll sit and talk. Sometimes we'll slow down and pay attention to something happening in the moment. Sometimes I'll ask you a question you weren't expecting. And yes, sometimes we might go for a walk.
No two sessions need to look exactly the same.

I work with adults and teens ages 14+, including individuals, couples, and families.
My work often centers around relationships, identity, transitions, perinatal and parenthood experiences, ADHD/neurodivergence, burnout and high achievement, religious trauma, and LGBTQ+ identity and relationships.
-
Yes. Telehealth is available in Kansas for clients who prefer meeting virtually or need to pivot due to life throwing you a curveball.

To provide personalized, high-quality therapy without insurance restrictions, Unwritten Therapy Co. offers services on a private-pay basis. As an out-of-network provider we do not bill insurance. This allows us to work without the limitations insurance companies often place on session frequency, treatment approaches, or length of care.
If you choose to seek reimbursement, we can provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance. Please note that insurance companies generally require a diagnosis to consider reimbursement.
-
Sessions range from $180 to $250 per session, depending on the type and length of the session. Questions or concerns can be addressed during a free 15- min consult call.
-
Life happens. I ask that you cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours before your appointment. Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice are subject to a $100 cancellation fee.

Then we're not a good fit—and that's okay.
The therapeutic relationship matters. I want you to feel comfortable being honest with me, including if something about our work isn't feeling right. Sometimes we can talk about it and adjust. Sometimes another therapist will be a better fit.
Either way, I'd rather you find the right person than stay somewhere that doesn't feel like it works for you.
